Running Blue

Miguel Rios is Running Blue who grew up in the lush, sultry tablelands of Far North Queensland. The son of  Part Mexican, part Native American, and Australian mother .As a kid he'd roam the creeks, knife strapped on and imagination unfettered, living and dreaming those small adventures that are as big and timeless as life itself. His music, at once nostalgic and fresh, is tinged, too, with something of the folkloric qualities of his ancestors' Americas.
His gift has been burnished by the accompaniment of his close friend, Ash Jones. Rios and this extraordinarily talented fiddler know each other inside out, and it shows in the way Jones's playing weaves in and out of the music like smoke through sunbeams. He instinctively knows when to play, and how much, showing a generous respect towards the songs. A truly humble man, Jones is a mesmerising artist who plays with tremendous empathy and intuition, bringing the same rare combination of effortlessness and impact to the music as Rios himself
Running Blue  is well known to Melbourne live audiences for his compelling, down-low acoustic sets. His lyrics are both simple and incisive, a dichotomy matched by a vocal style that is pure and unforced, yet raw and penetrating. His songs are detailed and deeply personal, but thrum with universal truths. This gifted, highly original singer-songwriter gives soulful voice to the longings and dark comedies of human striving that play out against the natural world.
